Gibson Niles, Colonel, United States Army (Retired), age 86, Class of 1941, United States Military Academy, and an accomplished artist, died December 31, 2002 at Riddle Memorial Hospital.
He had been a resident of Middletown, Pennsylvania, for 24 years.
A son, Roger G. Niles, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Ada Vann Niles of 59 years; children, Richard Scott, Cynthia J. Prinzivalli of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania; a sister, Helen McDowell of Texas; and four grandsons.
During World War II, he served several stateside assignments, and overseas with G-2, U.S. 6th Army, Southwest Pacific Area, where he was Commanding Officer of the Alamo Scout Training Center.
His decorations included the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star.
Funeral services were held January 5, 2003, with interment scheduled for Arlington National Cemetery on January 21, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Full Military Honors.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
