The son of George and Jane Love Watson Graham, he was born in Virginia on November 14, 1828. He served in both The Mexican War and the Civil War.
He died on July 28, 1889 and was buried in Section 3 of Arlington National Cemetery, among other members of the Graham and Davenport families.

The officers of the army, navy and marine corpsare respectfully invited to attend the funeral service at St. Johns church on Tuesday morning, July 23 at 10 o’clock. Interment private.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
