Mr. Gene Ridner
Gene Ridner, 69, First Sergeant, U.S. Army (Retired), died Tuesday, October 13, 1998, at his home after an illness of two years. He was a longtime resident of Neptune Beach, Florida, before moving to Orange Park, Florida.
A native of Kentucky, he was the husband for 45 years of Mrs. Silvaleen Ridner, who survives. While serving in the U.S. Army, he saw action in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War.
After retiring from the U.S. Army, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and retired after 17 years of service.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Ms. Joyce Ridner of Green Cove Springs and Ms. Janie McAvoy of Burlington; a son, Mr. Jon Ridner of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, Mr. Hewerl Cordell of Washington State; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
