Edmond Charles Gonyea, Jr., Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army (retired),
age 57 of Alexandria, Virginia, died on March 17, 2003 at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D. C.
Colonel Gonyea was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
He served 26 years in the U.S. Army, as an Infantry Officer in Viet Nam; and also at posts in Germany and the United States. He was a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, and a member of the Northeastern University Alumni Association.
Colonel Gonyea is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Gonyea; two children, Marc E. of Arlington and Megan Gonyea of Alexandria.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, April 23 at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel at 10:45 a.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
