Norman Utitus Algard, Jr. was born September 18, 1935 at Norwood, Pennsylvania. His parents were Norman and Sarah Algard. He attended Glen-Nor High School, Glenolden, Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Military College of Chester, Pennsylvania, where he graduated in June 1957.
He was going through Officer Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, was was killed on August 22, 1957 in a military accident – when the military vehicle in which he was being transported (along with his fellow trainees) – returning from maneuvers – took a turn too quickly and turned over. He was crushed and died instantly. He was subsequently buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
I was engaged to him – and it hurts to see that he has died again – in the non-remembrance of him. I can no longer travel and it would be nice to see his name on the list.
