RITES FOR MAJOR CAREY
Retired Army Officer’s Burial Will Be In Arlington Day
WASHINGTON, July 11, 1949 – A funeral service for Major Edwin E. Carey, USA, retired, will be held at the Walter Reed Hospital Chapel here tomorrow. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
Major Carey, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, sixty-five years ago and had resided in recent years at Buckroe Beach, Virginia, died in the hospital on Friday.
A graduate of Cornell University, Major Carey was an automobile salesman in New York before 1916. He joined the New York National Guard in that year, went overseas during the first World War and later entered the Air Corps and then the Regular Army.
Survivors include his widow and four sons.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
