Earl J. Cobey, 84, of Charlottesville, Virginia, died July 17, 2002 at the Colonnades.
Born April 14, 1918 in Riverdale, Maryland, he was the son of the late Earl S. and
Harriet Van Buskirk Cobey. His wife, Eleanor K. Cobey, also preceded him in death.
He served in World War II, the Vietnam War, where he rose from private to Colonel after 30 years. He graduated from the University of Maryland and received his MBA from Harvard.
He retired from Xerox Corp. after 13 years of employment as manager of Real Estate & Facilities for the Mid-Atlantic Region. He was a volunteer at The Senior Center, The Alzheimer’s Association and was an avid gardener.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Anne Cobey of Charlottesville; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Erin Potter, also of Charlottesville.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on August 26, 2002 at the Fort Myer
Chapel at Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
