CAPTAIN OSCAR KOESTER
BRADFORD, Pennsylvania, December 4, 1952 – Captain Oscar Koester, who supervised the repair of German ships confiscated by the United States in World War I, died at his home today at the age of 86.
Captain Koester, who was graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1888, retired in 1912. He was recalled to active duty in 1917.
NOTE: Captain Koester was the brother of Francis John Koester, Brigadier General, United States Army, and they are buried near one another in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
