He was killed when his Navy plane crashed during a training mission in the James River off Fort Eustis Thursday, September 1, 1955.
He will be interred with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC at 10:00 am Tuesday, September 6, 1955.
He was the son of Rear Admiral Wendell Switzer Senior, Chief of Naval Tactical Training at Memphis, Tennessee and was attached to Attack Squadron 42 at Oceana Naval Air Station.
He was a 1953 graduate of the Naval Academy. Besides his father, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Lamar Switzer; one sister and one brother, Lieutenant John Switzer, US Navy pilot stationed at Cecil Field, near Jacksonville, Florida.
Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, September 6, 1955 at 9:00 am at the North Station Chapel, Oceana Naval Air Station.
The memorial rites will be followed at 11:15 am by a Requiem Mass. Simultaneously, funeral services will be held in the Arlington National Cemetery.
He was unmarried.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
