COLONEL WILLIAM H. COWLES

October 29, 1951 – Colonel William H. Cowles, U.S.A., retired, died yesterday of a heart attack at his home, 37-19 Reservoir Road, Washington, at the age of 67.

A graduate of West Point, he served overseas with the American Expeditionary Forces in World War I as a Colonel of Field Artillery.  Later he went to the Philippines, where he was attached to the Inspector General’s Department.  He retired in the early Thirties.

Surviving are his second wife who was the widow of Colonel James J. O’Hara; two brothers, Colonel Calvin D. Cowles, Jr., U.S.A., retired, of Boise, Idaho; and Colonel David W. Cowles, U.S.A., retired, of San Francisco, and a sister, Mrs. John Ramsay of Washington.  The father of the three Colonels was the late Colonel Calvin D. Cowles, Sr., U.S.A., retired, of Hartford, Connecticut.
