William Horace Duncan Jr., 57, a retired Army major whose career included command of personnel operations in the Medical Service Corps, died of non-Hodgkins lymphoma August 1, 1998 at home in Laurel, Maryland.
Major Duncan was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and graduated from Morgan State University.
His began his military career in 1963, and he served in Vietnam during the Southeast Asian war. Other assignments included duty at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Fort Belvoir and Fort Eustis, Virginia., and Fort Knox, Kentucky. He retired in 1984. His decorations included a Bronze Star and a Meritorious Service Medal.
On retiring from the Army, Maj. Duncan settled in this area and taught junior ROTC at a high school in Baltimore.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Constance A. Duncan of Laurel; two children, Christopher Duncan of Laurel and Lori Duncan Charles of Los Angeles; his mother, Julia Maddox of Laurel; two sisters, Claudette Walker of New York and Donna McDavid of Laurel; and three grandchildren.

Duncan; son of Julia Duncan Maddox and the late William H. Duncan, Sr.; brother of Claudette Walker and Donna McDavid. Also survived by three grandchildren. Funeral services at the Chapel Center, Fort Meade, MD on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
