HAGERTY, WALTER H. (Hael) Lt. Col. USA (Ret.)
Walter Hael Hagerty died quietly on Friday, July 27, 2001. A devoted husband of 54 years and loving father passed on in Jacksonville, Fflorida.
Colonel Hagerty, a longtime resident of Springfield, Virginia, was born April 13, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 20, he joined the U.S. Army Signal Corp., in which he served for 26 years.
After his military service, he continued his career with the Federal Government in the Defense Communications sector until his retirement in 1982.
Upon his retirement, Colonel Hagerty and his wife, Betty, traveled for 10 years throughout North and Central America, before settling in Florida.
Colonel Hagerty is survived by his loving wife, Betty M. Hagerty of Jacksonville, FL; his children, Sharon L. Shipp of Springfield, VA, Deborah L. Waldman of Burke, VA, Cathy L. Tucker of Jacksonville, FL and Michael H. Hagerty of Rixeyville, VA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Service will be held August 20, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Ft. Myer Chapel with interment at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
