William Joseph Hever – First Lieutenant, United States Army

William Joseph Hever was born on 28 December 1890.  He was in the Class of 1917 at Harvard University.

During World War I, he served as First Lieutenant, 305th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division.  In this capacity he was killed in action in the Argonne Forest in France on 5 October 1918.  He was originally buried in France and subsequently returned home for burial with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery.

First Lieutenant William J. Hever – Duty as Second Lieutenant, Company F, from formation of regiment to January 1, 1918; then as First Lieutenant, Commanded Company F from September 15 to September 28. Evacuated, wounded, September 28, 1918. Died of wounds in action with Company F: Lorraine, Vesle, Aisne and Argonne (ist Phase).

The Lieutenant’s wife, Anne A Hever (18 February 1888-5 December 1967) never remarried and joined her hero in Arlington National Cemetery 49 years later.

Michael Robert Patterson

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
