Born at Oleesen, Norway, November 7, 1875, he earned the Medal of Honor in China on June 13, 20, 21 and 22, 1900. The Medal was actually issed to him on July 19, 1901.
He died on June 12, 1939 and was buried in Section 6 of Arlington National Cemetery. His wife, Marie Larsen Torgerson (1886-1935), is buried with him.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
