Walter Parks Blanton – Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army

Walter Parks Blanton, 78, of Macon, Georgia, died Monday, October 1, 2001 at his home.

Colonel Blanton was born October 2, 1922 in Coweta County, son of the late James Austin and Mary Williams Blanton. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel and served in World War II, as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Colonel Blanton received many military decorations and commendations.

After retiring from the military, Colonel Blanton studied theology and became and Episcopal priest. He served churches in Mississippi and Georgia before retiring in Macon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Johnson of Macon; his sister, Mary Gray Hutchinson of Haralson; and his nephew, Benjamin Gray of Statesboro.

Survivors include nephews and wives, Hosea and Raye Gray of Haralson, Tony and Carolyn Gray of Mableton, Jane Cleveland Gray of Statesboro; other nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held today, October 4, at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Hart’s Mortuary in Macon with Rev. Austin Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D. C.
