The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Harry F. Beinlich, Corporal, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near St. Souplet, France, October 15, 1918.
Accompanied by an officer and three other soldiers, Corporal Beinlich made a reconnaissance of the River La Selle, the journey being made under constant and heavy machine-gun fire. To secure the desired information it was necessary to wade the stream for the entire distance.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
