Howard J. Blesso, 71, a retired Army master sergeant who was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, died of cancer October 28, 1998 at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Sergeant Blesso, who lived in Alexandria, Virginia, entered the Army in 1946 and spent his early years assigned to field artillery units. He served in Korea during the Korean War and had two tours of duty in Vietnam during the war there. At the end of his 27-year career, he served as an executive chef.
His military honors included two Bronze Stars.
He was an avid golfer who managed the golf course at Fort Belvoir for three years after his military retirement in 1973. He was a member of the Washington Golf Association and helped organize tournaments and golf clinics for the Washington Metro Junior Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife, Okhi Blesso of Alexandria; six children, Kim Rinaldo of Pickerington, Ohio, Richard Blesso of Bowie, Rocky Blesso and Kathy Blesso, both of Alexandria, and Debra Chiota and Joan Blesso, both of Orlando; two sisters; and eight grandchildren.

Also survived by eight grandchildren, David, Cheryl, Crystal, Christina, Jessica, Nicholas, Anthony and Lauren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Ft. Belvoir Chapel. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
