Harold Manning Serven, Jr. – Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army

From a contemporary press report:

Harold Manning Serven Jr., 69, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who had served as deputy director of the Washington office of the Veterans of Foreign Wars from 1984 to 1996, died May 8, 2001, of cancer at his home in North Springfield, Virginia.

Colonel Serven, a native of Lynn, Massachusetts, was a 1953 history graduate of Boston University. An infantryman, he served in the Army from 1953 to 1978, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served in the Korean War and in Vietnam during the conflict
there. He was stationed at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center when he retired from active duty.

His decorations included the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.

He had done volunteer work with the Alexandria police department.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Patricia A. Serven of North Springfield, and their children, Douglass K., of Stafford, and Trisha A., of North Springfield; a brother; and five grandchildren.
