LEHR, WAYNE RENAU
Wayne Renau Lehr died on July 16, 2001.
Colonel Lehr was born in 1936 and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He studied electrical engineering at the University of Michigan, and later pursued his dream of becoming a fighter pilot by joining the United States Air Force.
In his over 25 years in the Air Force, he held several command positions, including Commander of the 493rd Tactical Fighter Squadron, the last squadron of F-4 fighter planes in Europe. Wayne also served two tours of duty in South East Asia during the Vietnam conflict.
Among his many decorations for service to his country are the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star. Wayne and his family lived in Europe for 15 years, where, on his first overseas posting at Wethersfield, England, he met and married his wife, Doreen Drewry.
After retiring from the Air Force with the rank of Colonel in 1984, Wayne pursued a career in the Defense industry, specializing in electronics.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Doreen Drewry Lehr; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Judy Lehr of Tarzana, California; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and John Rogers of Washington, DC; and two grandchildren, Alexandra Christianna and Maximillian Rogers.
A funeral ceremony in his honor will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, at the Old Post Chapel, Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
