“Helen Moran Wade, 92, a lifelong resident of Washington, D.C. who was honored overseas for her volunteer work and who socialized with several first ladies, died October 18, 1993 at her home after a long illness.
“She attended Sacred Heart School and Central High School in the District, as well as Mount St. Mary’s High School in Tarrytown, New York. In the 1940s, she married U.S. Air Force General Leigh Wade, who participted in the first around-the-world flight, and accompanied him on assignments in Cuba, Greece and Brazil in the 1950s. While in Greece and Brazil, she was decorated by those governments for her volunteer service.
“Back home, she was a member of Bess Truman’s Spanish Bridge Club and later was also part of Mamie Eisenhower’s bridge group. She was also involved with the Arts & Letters Society, the Washington Club and the Sulgrave Club.
“Her husband died in 1991. They had no children, she is survied by nine nephews and seven nieces. A funeral mass was held at St. Thomas Apostle Church in the District and she was buried with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.”
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
