SEEDLOCK, HORTENSE NORTON (AGE 81)
Hortense Norton Seedlock died on Saturday August 26, 2000, peacefully at home in Melbourne, Florida.
Mrs. Seedlock was born in Savannah, Georgia and attended Savannah High School, St. Mary’s Junior College, in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Pennsylvania College for Women and received her Masters Degree in English from the American University, in Washington, DC.
She spent a great portion of her life following her husband, Major General Robert F. Seedlock, from military post to military post around the world. She spent the war years at home in Savannah, but immediately after the war joined her husband in China where she crossed communist lines to teach English at Yenching University in Peking.
Upon returning to the United States, the family settled in Falls Church, Virginia, where she completed her Masters Degree and taught in the local school system. Mrs. Seedlock volunteered in a number of worthy causes and was a fixture at the Thrift Shop of Falls Church. An accomplished pianist, she soon developed a speciality in transcribing music into braille for the blind. She spent many hours in this pursuit and was one of a few people qualified to perform this valuable service.
She was an active member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, The Daughters of the American Revolution and the Army Navy County Club.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 63 years, Major General Robert F. Seedlock, (USA Ret.), of Melbourne; two daughters, Elizabeth Morrissette, of Pensacola, FL and Mary Seedlock, of Atlanta, GA; sons, Colonel Robert F. Seedlock Jr. (USAR Ret.), Brentwood, TN and Walter N. Seedlock, of Fairfax, VA; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at The Arlington National Cemetery, Friday, September 8, at 10 a.m. Friends should proceed to the cemetery’s administration building by 9:30 a.m. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of her granddaughter, Jennifer Klapper.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
