Lawrence Carter Crawford – Colonel, United States Army

COLONEL L. C. CRAWFORD

WASHINGTON, August 26, 1949 – Colonel Lawrence C. Crawford, a retired Army officer and an insurance broker in Washington for twenty-nine years, died yesterday of a heart attack at his home in this city.  He was 69 years old.

Colonel Crawford was born in Brunswick, Maine, where his father, the late Brigadier General Medorem Crawford, was Professor of Military Science at Bowdoin College.  A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Colonel Crawford entered the Army as a Private in 1901.  He served overseas in the Coast Artillery in World War I and had the rank of Major at the close of the war, but was promoted to Colonel before his retirement for disability in 1920.

Colonel Crawford was a member of the Army and Navy Club of Washington, the Insurance Club and the Military Order of the Loyal Legion.

He is survived by his widow and daughter who live in Washington; a brother, Colonel Medorem Crawford of Roseburg, Oregon, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Bronson of Hartford, Connecticut and Miss Dolores Crawford of Washington.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
