Richard Klemm Boyd, Jr. was born on April 9, 1938 and joined the Armed Forces while in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
He served in the United States Army. In six years of service, he attained the rank of Major. He began a tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam on June 29, 1967.
On October 26, 1967, at the age of 29, Richard Klemm Boyd, Jr.perished in the service of our country in South Vietnam, Quang Ngai.
Richard Klemm Boyd, Jr. graduated from the United States Military Academy in June 1960 and was appointed a Second Lieuenant of Infantry. He subsequently completed Airborne Training and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division.
He was assigned to the Republic of Vietnam and served with the Military Advisory Command, Vietnam, in 1963-64. He was serving with the First Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division when he was killed in action in Vietnam on 26 October 1967.
During his career he was the recipient of the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with four Oak Leaf Clusters, and was postmuously awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He was also qualified to wear the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
Major Boyd was the only son of Colonel Richard Klemm Boyd, Sr., United States Army.
