Jack Hayes – Colonel, United States Army

Hayes was the son of Edward Mortimer Hayes, Brigadier General, United States Army.  He continued through the ranks to Colonel, Quartermaster Corps.  The Colonel died on 10 January 1925 and was buried with full military honors in Section 1 of Arlington National Cemetery, not far from his father.

COLONEL JACK HAYES, FORMER ATLANTAN, DIED SATURDAY

ATLANTA, January 11, 1925 – News of the death at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, of Colonel Jack Hayes, former Atlantan, was received here Saturday by friends.  Colonel Hayes at one time was stationed at Fort McPherson and had many friends here.  His widow, formerly Miss Eva Willy, of Atlanta, and small son, Jack Hayes, Jr., were at his side when the end came.

Colonel Hayes was the son of the late Brigadier General Hayes of the United States Army.  He was born in North Carolina.  He had been transferred to Harrisburg only recently and maintained his residence at Washington, D.C. where he was stationed before his last assignment.

He was stricken early in the week with paralysis, dying Saturday.  The body probably will be taken to Washington for funeral services and interment probably will be in Arlington Cemetery there.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
