Walter Stratton Anderson (1881-1981). Born on October 4, 1881, in Carlinville, Illinois.
Graduated from Annapolis in 1903 and commissioned in 1905.
Post graduate study in naval ordnance 1906-1907. Gunnery officer, then Executive Officer aboard the Arizona in World War I.
Graduated from the Naval War College in 1921. Naval Attache in London 1934-1936. Rear Admiral in July 1936. Commander of Cruiser Division Four 1937-1939. Director of naval intelligence 1939-1941.
Commander of battleships in the Pacific Fleet 1941-1942. President of the Naval Board of Inspection and Survey 1942- 1944. Commandant of 7th Naval District 1944-1945. Vice Admiral in April 1945.
Retired in March 1946. Decorations included the Legion of Merit. Died on October 24, 1981.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
