Captain Porterfield was a member of the 65th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on October 28, 1952. Captain Porterfield was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze State Medal with Valor Device posthumously, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
