Colonel (Ret.) James E. Campbell, 77, died Sept. 4 1996 in Pardee Hospital, North Carolina.
Colonel Campbell served in the Vietnam War and World War II in North Africa and Italy. He also served during the Japanese occupation and in Germany and France after World War II. His last active-duty post was in Athens, Greece He was a life member of the National Retired Officers Association and former director of the Western North Carolina Chapter.
His decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
He is survived by his wife, Jean.
Burial was held September 12, 1996 at the Arlington National Cemetery.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
