Sergeant First Class Miles was a member of the 4th Ranger Infantry Company (Airborne), serving with the 8086th Army Unit, Korean Military Assistance Group (KMAG).
He was listed as Missing in Action while advising the South Koreans in North Korea on July 8, 1951. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953.
For his leadership and valor, Sergeant First Class Miles was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
