Leo Donovan (1895-1950)
Born on December 6, 1895 in Selma, Alabama.
B.S. from Alabama Polytechnic Institute in 1917. Commissioned in the Infantry, Officers Reserve Corps in 1917. Served with the 56th Infantry, AEF 1918-1919. In the Philippines 1928-1930. Graduated from the Command and General Staff School in 1936 and the Army War College in 1939. Instructor at the Command and General Staff school September 1939-June 1942.
Commanding Officer of 309th Infantry, 78th Infantry Division in 1942. Brigadier General in April 1943. Commander of 1st Airborne Infantry Brigade in 1943. Commanding General of the Airborne Command November 1943-February 1944. Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans and Training at Army Ground Forces February 1944-August 1945. Major General in November 1944.
Retired as Colonel in December 1946. Decorations included the Distinguished Service Medal and Legion of Merit.
Died on May 21, 1950

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
