From a contemporary press report:
John C. Martin, 56, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel in the Adjutant General’s Corps and a senior information specialist for EDS Corp., died of cancer March 26, 2004, at Burke Health Care Center, Virginia.
Colonel Martin served in the Army from 1969 to 1995 and was awarded a Bronze Star for his two tours of duty in Vietnam. He also served two tours in Germany and several others in the United States, including one at Fort Belvoir, and received four Meritorious Service Awards.
Born in New York City, Colonel Martin graduated from City College in 1969. He received a master’s degree in information systems from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 1978 and graduated from the Army War College in 1992. He also attended the Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
His posts included stints in the Army information systems command at the Pentagon, as Senior Military Assistant to an Assistant Secretary of Defense and in the Army Information Management Support Center. He was Deputy Adjutant General in Fort Lewis, Washington, in the mid-1980s.
After retiring from military service, he was most recently a senior information specialist for EDS Corp. and was the team leader for Defense Department’s Information Systems Agency mission support.
Colonel Martin enjoyed reading, Irish music and his family’s summer cottage in Princeton, Maine.
A son died in 1981.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Susan Martin; a son, Christopher John Martin; and a stepdaughter, Jennifer Moore, all of Burke.

Services will be held on June 9 at 11 a.m. at Fort Myer Chapel. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
