Colonel Hunt was a native of Canada and entered the United States service December 28, 1861 as First Lieutenant and Regimental Quartermaster of the Fourteenth Minnesota Infantry. He served throughout the war with his regiment and in the Quartermaster’s Department, until placed on the retired list for disability in the line of duty, February 26, 1885. He was brevetted Lieutenant Colonel, July 28, 1865, for faithful and meritorious services.
