Henry Welles Baird (1881-1963). Born in Kent Island, Maryland on August 13, 1881.
Enlisted service with 15th Cavalry 1904-1907. Commissioned in the Cavalry in 1907. Graduated from Command and General Staff School in 1923. Commanding Officer of 1st Cavalry November 1938-October 1940. Brigadier General in October 1940, Major General in July 1941. Commanding General of 4th Armored Division March 1941-May 1942 and again June 1942-November 1942. Retired as Colonel in November 1942. Major General on the retired list in 1948.
