Many members and descendants of the Miles Family (Lieutenant General Nelson Appleton Miles) are buried in this mauloseum on a hill in Section 3 of Arlington National Cemetery.
It is one of only two mausoleums located within the confines of the Cemetery. The only other one belongs to the family of General Thomas Crook Sullivan and it is located in Section 1.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
