US NAVY OFFICER COMMITS SUICIDE
Captain Lung Found At His Bristol, Rhode Island, Home
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – July 26, 1921 – Captain George A. Lung, Medical Officer at the Naval War College at Newport, committed suicide today at his Summer home, Popasquash Point, in Bristol.
Captain Lung was born in Canandaiga, New York, December 21, 1862, and entered the Navy August 18, 1888, as Assistant Surgeon. He was made Surgeon in 1900. He was with Sampson’s Squadron at Santiago and had served in many capacities, ashore and afloat.
He graduated from the Naval War College six months ago and was the first Medical Officer assigned to the care of the officers at the college and their families.
He was populat with his colleagues and no reason can be assigned for his deed.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
