The wife of Major General Montgomery Cunningham Meigs. Her stone in Section 1 of Arlington National Cemetery reads:
“Louisa Rodgers Meigs, daughter of Commodore John Rodgers and Minerva Denison his wife.
Born in Washington, D.C., 17th August 1816
Died there 21 November 1879
Loving daughter, blessed wife, fond mother, true friend. Faithful Christian
Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God.”
She is the connection between the famous American military families, “Meigs” and “Rodgers” which exist to this day.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
