FUNERAL SERVICE SET MONDAY FOR MAJOR GENERAL LOWELL ROOKS
WASHINGTON, May 11, 1973 – A service for Major General Lowell W. Rooks, retired, a member of General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s staff in World War Ii and director general of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in 1947-48, will be held Monday at 11 A.M. in Arlington National Cemetery.
General Rooks, who commanded the 90th Division at the Battle of the Bulge, died January 17 in Nogales, Arizona, where he lived. He was 80.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R. J. Nunziato of Menlo Park, California, and Mrs. Thomas Morgan of Nogales and four grandchildren.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
