Suspect in Doctor’s Shooting Expected To Return
Arlington, Virginia – The doctor shot dead outside his Mitchellville, Maryland, home received a hero’s farewell Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery.
Dr. Thomas Gay was buried at Arlington National Cemetery because he spent 36 years in the Navy, including 23 in the reserves, before retiring in 2001 at the rank of Captain. At his funeral earlier this month, he received full military honors, and his body was dressed in uniform.
Gay was killed on July 22, 2003, as he got out of his car in the driveway of his Parkside Drive house. Two suspects have been arrested, and Prince George’s County Police say the pair used the doctor’s credit cards to buy items off the Internet.
In addition to his military career, Gay practiced medicine in D.C. and taught at Howard University Medical School.

Palmer Park, Maryland – One of the suspects in the fatal shooting of Dr. Thomas Gay, a Mitchellville doctor, is expected back in Maryland this evening.
Nineteen-year-old Arthur Royal was arrested outside New Orleans on August 4th along with fellow suspect Christopher Kargbo, where they were being held pending extradition. Both are charged in the shooting death of Gay, who was shot in his driveway as he got out of his car on July 22nd. The two were identified by police after tracking their use of Gay’s credit cards.
Kargbo is due to be extradited to Prince George’s County on Saturday.

MITCHELVILLE, Maryland — Police believe robbery could be the motivation behind the fatal shooting of a doctor in Prince George’s County earlier this week, the Washington Post reported Saturday.
Doctor Shot In His Driveway
Dr. Thomas Gay died Friday after being shot Tuesday night outside his Mitchellville home. Gay was getting out of his car when the shooting apparently occurred. He lived in the Woodmore South development.
Authorities currently don’t have any suspects.
Witnesses said that they saw a dark-colored sport utility vehicle fleeing the area.
Police have been canvassing the neighborhood in search of clues.
Gay and his doctor daughter were in practice together in northwest District of Columbia.

It was just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night when a doctor pulled into the driveway of his Mitchellville, Maryland, home. As Dr. Thomas Gay got out of the car, police say someone came up, shot him in the head, then fled.
Just moments later, a relative pulled into that driveway in the 2100 block of Parkside Drive and found Gay.
The doctor was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses told police they saw a dark-colored sport utility vehicle leaving the area, but police are not sure if the car is connected to the crime.
