Haydon LeMaire Boatner – Major General, United States Army

Haydon LeMaire Boatner (1900-1977)

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 8, 1900. Commissioned in the Infantry from West Point in 1924.

Graduated from Command and General Staff School in 1939. Commanding Officer of the forward echelon in Burma 1942. Brigadier General in November 1942. Chief of Staff of the Chinese Army in Burma 1942-1943. Commanding General of combat troops in northwest Burma 1943-1944. Chief of Staff of Chinese Combat Command 1944-1945.

Assignments after the war included Commanding General of 3rd Division 1954-1955 and Provost Marshall General, U.S. Army 1957-1960.

Retired as Major General in November 1960. Decorations included three Distinguished Service Medals, the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Commendation Ribbon.

Died on May 29, 1977.

Note:  His brother Bryant LeMaire Boatner, Lieutenant General, United States Air Force, is buried in Section 1 of Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
