Daniel S. Kleehammer, 72, of Hilton Head Island died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 16, 1932, in Chicago, son of Stephen and Helen Trembaczkiewicz Kleehammer. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Army, both in the states and abroad during the Vietnam War, as an oral surgeon and retired as a Colonel in 1978. He later opened private practices in Hammond and Scherville, Ind., retiring to Hilton Head in 1998.
Colonel Kleehammer is survived by his wife, Ramona, of Hilton Head; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Tom O’Hara of Columbus, Ohio; three sons and daughters-in-law, Patty and Richard Kleehammer of Edmond, Oklahoma, Pat and Christopher Kleehammer of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Stephanie and Mark Kleehammer of New Orleans; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kleehammer.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at The Island Funeral Home and Crematory, 4 Cardinal Road. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis By the Sea Catholic Church. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
