Distinguished Service Medal

In November 1999, I learned that he was the son of James Thompson Ord and Rose Basevi.  James Thompson Ord was a son of Major General Edward Ortho Cresap Ord.

 

He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1915.

However, he is buried in a gravesite in Section 2 of Arlington National Cemetery, just a few feet from the rest of the Ord clan. (1892-1938).

Camp General Servillano Aquino. Formerly called Camp Ord named after Lieutenant Colonel James B. Ord (who died in the airplane crash in 1938) is now the home of the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army. To add to historicity of the place is the Eisenhower tree planted on July 4, 1939 by Lieuteannt Colonel Dwight D. Eisenhower, chief of Staff of Marshall Douglas McArthur, the military adviser of the Philippine Commonwealth. The Camp is about 20 meters away from the national highway.

On the death of Colonel Ord in an airplane accident on 30 January 1938 in Baguio, Lieutenant Colonel Richard J. Marshall was chosen to replace him.
