Lillian Aubert – Assistant Superintendent, United States Army Nurse Corps

Lillian Aubert served as Assistant Superintendent of the Army Nurse Corps, in the office of the Surgeon General. She died as the result of overwork; Residence, Shreveport, La  She was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal for her nursing work in World War I.

Award, posthumous, of distinguished service medal:

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bulletin Number 43, W.D., 1918), as amended by the act of Congress approved April 7, 1922 (Bulletin  Number 6, W.D.), a distinguished service medal was posthumously awarded to the following named nurse:

Lillian Aubert, chief nurse, Army Nurse Corps.  For exceptional meritorious and distinguished services.  As assistant superintendent , Army Nurse Corps, in the office of the Surgeon General during the World War , she rendered services of the highest order.  By her devotion to duty and great efficiency at a time when members of the Army Nurse Corps were being enrolled, equipped and assigned to both overseas and home service she made an invaluable contribution to the work of the Medical Department in caring for the sick.  She was taken ill while on duty on October 2, 1918, and died October 6, 1918 of pneumonia, in the line of duty, as a result of overwork.  Next of kin: Mrs. Grace Aubert, mother, 880 Ashley Street, San Francisco, California.  Resident at appointment: Shreveport, Louisiana.
