Born in Wisconsin, November 2, 1869, he graduated from West Point in 1891; from the Army War College in 1916; from the General Staff School in 1921. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry on June 12, 1891, and was promoted through the ranks to Brigadier General, Assistant to the Adjutant General of the Army, May 16, 1924, with rank for four years. He was Brigadier General, National Army, April 12, 1918-October 31, 1919, for World War I service.
He died on December 30, 1928 and was buried in Section 1 of Arlington National Cemetery, where he rests among other family members.
