The son-in-law of Sherman Miles and Yulee Noble Miles, he was the husband of Nanita Miles Wight, the granddaughter of General Nelson Appleton Miles. He was buried in the Miles Mausoleum in Section 3 of Arlington National Cemetery on September 22, 1968.
Allyn Richmond Wight (Violetta, Talbot, William Richmond, George Washington, Silas, Benjamin, Samuel, Jared) was born September 9, 1893 in Montclair, New Jersey, and died September 1969 in Montclair, New Jersey. He married Nanita Yulee Miles, June 6, 1936 in Washington, D.C., daughter of Sherman Miles and Yulee Noble.
Allyn Richmond Wight went to Choate School, graduating in the class of 1913. He went on to Williams College where he graduated in the class of 1917.
He joined the Officer’s Training Corps, I think at Plattsburg, New York, and was commissioned a Second Lieutannt. He spent the war in the U.S. and one assignment was training Negro troops in Georgia.
A good pianist, singer, tennis player and sailor, he was a member of the Montclair Glee Club and the Montclair Tennis Club for many years. Until he married Nanita Yulee Miles in 1936 he lived with the family at 65 Gates Avenue, Montclair, New Jersey and was the in-house investment advisor.
He worked Higgins & Co. a financial advisory firm out of Chicago until the Second World War when he volunteered and became a First Lieutenant of Military Police and was sent to England.
After the war he worked as an investment counselor at Standard & Poors in NYC where he worked until he retired in about 1955.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
