FUNERAL OF COLONEL HINE

Rites for Former Commander of the 69th Held in St. Thomas’

February 16, 1927 – Funeral services for Colonel Charles Delano Hine, veteran of the Spanish-American and World Wars, former commander of the Sixty-Ninth Regiment and railroad organizer, were held yesterday morning in St. Thomas’ Protestant Episcopal Church on Fifth Avenue.  About 125 relatives and friends were present.  The Rev. Roelif H. Brooks conducted the rites.

The honorary pallbearers were: J. M. Davis, President of the Lackawanna Railroad, General Palmer Pierce, General James A. Ryan, General A. D. Andrews, Colonel T. Crabb, General John Bradley, Colonel Charles Echols, and Colonel John J. Phelan, Colonel C. A. Sloane, Major William Kennelly, Orlando Harriman, E. H. Wands, T. J. Watson, William Wherry, John S. Wise, Jr., John H. Droian, Lewis P. Whitaker, Shirley Eaton, Frank E. Hall, James P. Grant, Stuart W. Jackson, C. S. Reno and E. P. Harder.

The body was accompanied to Washington by the widow, Mrs. Helen Underwood Hine; the Colonel’s mother, Mrs. Alma Delano Hine of Vienna, Virginia, and his sister, Mrs. W. J. Echols, of Vienna.  Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

NOTE: The Colonel’s parents, Major and Mrs. Orrin Eugene Hine, are buried near the Colonel in Section 1 of Arlington National Cemetery.
