From a contemporary press report
Peter J. Gonzalez, 76, a retired businessman who was reportedly involved in undercover investigative work for both the CIA and the FBI, died of a heart attack at Northeast Georgia Medical Center at Gainesville, Georgia, on March 31, 1999.
Mr. Gonzalez, who retired to Burtonsville in 1992 as a conveniently equidistant point between his various grandchildren, had operated the Sans Souci Travel Agency in Floral Park, N.Y., on Long Island, from about 1955 until his retirement.
During that time, he was involved in intelligence activities in the United States and abroad, according to a son-in-law, Lee Richman, of Rockville.
Mr. Gonzalez was responsible for the indictments of 110 people accused of involvement in drug trafficking, said Richman, who is a vice president of Concentra Preferred Systems of Rockville, a health insurance industry company.
Mr. Gonzalez was born in Cuba of American parents in 1922 and was raised there and in New Hyde Park on Long Island.
He served in the Army from 1940 to 1945 and was wounded in Europe in April 1943.
After the war, he held various jobs in New York, and in 1949 moved to Caracas, where he became a translator for the Venezuelan government.
Mr. Gonzalez returned to the United States in 1955, and worked for Varig and Trans-Canadian Airlines before opening his travel agency.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Marie Gonzalez of Burtonsville; four children, Peter Gonzalez, Gwendolyn Gonzalez-Hogan, Douglas Gonzalez and Karen Gonzalez-Richman; a sister; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
