Robert Francis Bodroghy – Colonel, United States Army

Robert Francis Bodroghy, 70, a retired Army colonel who also had worked as a Central Intelligence Agency officer, died of cancer February 9, 2000 at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Virginia.

Colonel Bodroghy, an intelligence officer, retired from the Army in 1979 after 30 years of military service that included combat duty with the Airborne Rangers 1st Company during the Korean War.

During his military career, he was detailed several times to the CIA with assignments in Laos, Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia, among other places. He was an intelligence officer in Vietnam during the war there.

His military decorations included the Purple Heart.

From 1979 until his civilian retirement in 1985, he worked for the CIA in overseas assignments. In subsequent years, he was a consultant and active member of the Ranger Infantry Companies Airborne Association and the Vienna Police Department Auxiliary.

He also was a German shepherd enthusiast. He belonged to the German Shepherd Club of America and served as an instructor at the Dulles Gateway Obedience Training Club.

Colonel Bodroghy had been a Vienna resident since 1960. He was a native of  New York and a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.

His wife of 45 years, Jeanne E. Bodroghy, died in 1997.

Survivors include three children, Robert S. Bodroghy of Walkersville, Md., Katherine A. Bodroghy of Fairfax and Corry Eich of Newark, Calif.; a sister; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel on Tuesday, February 15, at 8:45 a.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to the American Cancer Society, 124 Park St., SE, Vienna, VA 22180.
