John L. Hackett Sr., 57, a retired Army colonel who since 1992 had been director of the Medical College Admission Test for the American Association of Medical Colleges, died September 12, 2000 at a hotel in Orlando after a heart attack. Colonel Hackett, a resident of Alexandria, Virginia, was on a business trip when stricken.
He was born in Jersey City and graduated from St. Peter’s College in New Jersey. He received a master’s degree in education from Seton Hall University.
He served in the Army from 1966 until 1992. He was a military policeman and served in Vietnam, Europe and various posts in the United States. He settled in this area as a permanent resident in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, of Alexandria; three children, John L. Hackett Jr. of Tacoma, Wash., Amy E. Hackett of Silver Spring and Brian S. Hackett of Alexandria; and a brother.

Friends may gather at the Administration Building at 8:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
