Richard B. Webb, 63, a retired Army Colonel and intelligence officer, died of a heart attack December 7, 1998 at his home in Annandale, Virginia.
He served in Germany and Korea and in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He retired as chief of staff of a joint tactical fusion program that develops automated battlefield intelligence systems.
Colonel Webb was born in Ames, Iowa. He was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the Army War College. He received two master’s degrees from Stanford University, one in operations research and the other in engineering economics systems.
After he retired, Colonel Webb was in a real estate brokerage with his wife, Audrey Webb.
His military honors included a Legion of Merit, three Bronze Stars, a Meritorious Service Medal, a Joint Service Commendation Medal and three Army Commendation Medals.
Colonel Webb was active in the men’s ministry and international fellowship of Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield. As a member of the Fairfax County Crime Victims Support Group, he worked on legislation in support of victims’ rights.
In addition to his wife of 40 years, of Annandale, survivors include three sons, Andrew Webb of Dallas, David Webb of Burke and Brian Webb of Springfield; a brother; and three grandchildren.

On December 7, 1998, COL. RICHARD B. WEBB, of Annandale, VA, beloved husband of Audrey Johnson Webb, father of Andy, David and Brian Webb, and grandfather of three granddaughters, went Home to be with the Lord. The family will receive visitors at DEMAINE SPRINGFIELD- ANNANDALE CHAPEL, Backlick and Edsall Rds., Springfield, on Tuesday, December 15, from 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 7 p.m., at Immanuel Bible Church, 6911 Braddock Rd., Springfield, VA, with a reception immediately following in the Fireside Room of the Church. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 10 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the Administration Building at 9:45 a.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Officers Christian Fellowship, PO Box 1177, Englewood, CO 80150.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history. Many of his articles can be found on renowned portals like the New York Times, Washingtonpost or Wikipedia.
