The wife of U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Reginald S. Venable, she was born in Los Angeles on December 7, 1893. She attended Girls Collegiate Institute, 1904-07. Married Venable on June 8, 1921.
She worked as an actress, teacher, radio, TV, motion pictures, Broadway plays including Willow Tree, East Island West, Jealousy, First Love, Admirable Crighton, Dream Girl, Dodsworth. Motion pictures include White Banners, Mrs. Wiggs, War Against Mrs. Hadley, Jezebel (Academy Award for the role of Aunt Belle), Childrens Hour. TV appearances include the Lux Theater, Studio One, US Steel Hour, Robert Montgomery Presents. Served as an entertainer in hospital tours during World War II.
She died on April 17, 1968 and was buried in Section 3 of Arlington National Cemetery.
FUNERAL FOR FAY BAINTER TO BE TOMORROW ON COAST
HOLLYWOOD, California – April 17, 1968 – Fay Bainter, the stage and screen actress who died here yesterday at the age of 74, will be eulogizedat a funeral service at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills.
She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, where herlate husband, Lieutenant Commander Reginald S. H. Venable, is interred. He died in 1964.
Miss Bainter is survived by a son, Reginald Venable of New York.
Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army.
