Representative from Ohio; born near Holmesville, Holmes County, Ohio, November 24, 1901; attended the public schools; College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio; was graduated from the college of law of Ohio State University at Columbus in 1925; was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Piqua, Ohio; member of the State house of representatives 1933-1944, serving as minority leader, 1936-1939 and as speaker, 1939-1944; served in the Military Government Forces from December 26, 1943, to October 12, 1945; elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress, by special election, November 4, 1947, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Robert F. Jones; reelected to the twelve succeeding Congresses and served from November 4, 1947, to January 3, 1973; was not a candidate for reelection in 1972 to the Ninety-third Congress; resumed the practice of law in Piqua, Ohio; died in Washington, D.C., February 22, 1980; interment in Arlington National Cemetery.

Michael Robert Patterson was born in Arlington and is the son of a former officer of the US Army. So it was no wonder that sooner or later his interests drew him to American history and especially to American military history.
